Have you ever wondered how the Arellano High School (Class 1980) Alumni Association, Inc. was established?
It was summer of 1999 when Persia Ma. Coll of IV-1 Ordinary and Dario de Castro of IV-2 Ordinary thought of having a reunion with sections 1 and 2. They contacted Ma. Lourdes Canlas and Eleanor Rivera who in turn went to Arellano High School to get the names and addresses of their classmates. Persia then sent an invitation for a get together party for the group.
Persia from Australia with Dario and Priscilla Dungo both from Canada came back to the Philippines in December 1999. They met in a hotel where Persia was billeted and agreed to go out of town together with the rest of the group for an overnight swimming party in Caliraya, Quezon on January 2-3, 2000. It was a night of reminiscing the past like everyone's crushes and revelation of personal secrets in front of a bonfire. Apparently, this was the time in twenty years that love blossomed between sweethearts Catalina Alagde and Michael Pamiroyan and eventually got married half a year after. It was followed by a dinner date in Kamayan on January 4, 2000 with no less that the late Miss Reemedios E. Quiray, AHS Principal then, as special guest. This paved the way for the monthly meeting of the group with the objective to reach out and look for other batchmates either through electronic mails or by telephone/cellular phone calls.
Everybody's effort was rewarded since they were able to find representatives from the three groups namely the ISOSA, the Bilingual and the Ordinary classes when this batch held its first ever Christmas Party on December 29, 2001. This was the year Arellano High School (Class 1980) Alumni Association, Inc. was officially founded at the residence of Gladie Toribio in United Parañaque Subdivision I, Parañaque City. The first set of officers was elected with C/M Renato C. Sangalang of IV-1 ISOSA as President. His term of office lasted for two years so as not to hamper the momentum the group had created. The regular monthly meetings were held in AHS, different restaurants or in Rene's office in P. Paredes, Manila. Succeeding Christmas parties were then held i.e. Rene Sangalang's office (2002), Edimar Salcedo's residence in 2003 (the year when the second set of officers was elected with Mannylin Evangelista-Peña as President and declaring C/M Sangalang as the Chairman of the Board of Advisers), Mannylin's residence in 2004 and AHS compound in 2005 when Lolita Villarin-Patricio was elected as the third president and Mannylin was automatically became a member of the board of advisers.
To put all the activities in their proper perspective, the group worked hard to create its constitution and by-laws and have the association registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last July 30, 2004 with Company Registration No. CN200411711. The rest is now history.
